How to use the XML Sitemap Generator
- 1
Paste one URL per line, or export them from a crawler or your CMS.
- 2
Choose whether to add today's date as lastmod.
- 3
Download sitemap.xml, upload it to your site root and submit it in Search Console.
What belongs in a sitemap
A sitemap should list the pages you want indexed, and only those. Leave out redirects, 404s, noindex pages, filtered and paginated URLs and duplicates that point a canonical elsewhere.
After you upload
A sitemap only helps if search engines can find and trust it:
- Upload it to your domain root (yoursite.com/sitemap.xml)
- Add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt
- Submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
- Regenerate it when you add or remove pages
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a sitemap?
Small, well-linked sites can be found without one, but a sitemap speeds up discovery and gives you indexing reports in Search Console.
Does this crawl my site?
No. You paste the URLs, so it works for any site and never sends requests to it.
What about priority and changefreq?
Google ignores them, so the generator leaves them out.
Is my data stored?
No. The file is generated in your browser.
