What LocalBusiness schema does
Schema markup is a small block of code that describes your business in a format machines read without guessing. For a local business it covers the business type, name, address, phone, hours, service area and links to your other profiles.
It does not rank a page on its own. It removes ambiguity, which helps Google connect your website to your Business Profile and helps AI assistants describe you accurately.
Match your Business Profile exactly
Your name, address and phone number should be identical in your schema, on your website and on your Google Business Profile, down to the suite number and the phone format. Inconsistent details are one of the most common local SEO problems we fix.
- Use the same business name you use on Google, with no added keywords
- List the hours you actually answer the phone
- Add your Business Profile, Facebook, Yelp and LinkedIn URLs under "Profiles"
- Use areaServed for service-area businesses that travel to customers
Where to put the code
Add the markup to your homepage, or to each location page if you have several locations (one block per location, each with its own address and phone). On WordPress, a header code plugin or your SEO plugin's custom schema field works well.
Frequently asked questions
Will schema markup improve my rankings?
Not directly. Schema helps search engines and AI tools understand your business, which supports your Business Profile and your eligibility for rich results. Rankings still depend on relevance, proximity and prominence.
Should I add review stars to my LocalBusiness schema?
No. Google does not show star ratings for reviews a business publishes about itself on its own site, so this tool leaves aggregateRating out.
Which business type should I choose?
Choose the most specific type that fits, such as Plumber, Dentist or AutoRepair. If nothing fits, use LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService.
How do I test the code?
Paste your page URL or the code into Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org Markup Validator. Both are free.
