Title case vs. sentence case
Title case capitalizes the main words ("How to Write a Title Tag That Gets Clicks"). Sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper nouns ("How to write a title tag that gets clicks"). Many brands now prefer sentence case for headings because it reads more naturally.
How the styles differ
The styles mostly disagree on short words:
- AP: lowercase words of three letters or fewer, such as "for" and "the"
- APA: capitalize words of four letters or more
- Chicago: lowercase articles, conjunctions and all prepositions
- All styles capitalize the first and last word
