How WiFi QR codes work
The code holds your network details in a standard format (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;). iPhone and Android cameras read it natively and offer to join the network, so there's no app to install.
The code is static: it never expires and doesn't route through anyone's server. If you change the Wi-Fi password, make a new code.
Keep guest Wi-Fi safe
Share a separate guest network, not the one your point-of-sale, cameras or office computers use. Most business routers can create a guest network that's isolated from your main devices in a few minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Do WiFi QR codes work on iPhone?
Yes. iPhones running iOS 11 or later read WiFi QR codes from the built-in camera, as do Android phones.
Is it safe to put my WiFi password in a QR code?
Anyone who scans it can join, just like anyone you tell the password to. Use a guest network that's separated from your business devices.
Does the code expire?
No. It's a static code with no redirect, so it works as long as the network name and password stay the same.
Is my password sent to your server?
No. The code is generated in your browser and nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Why won't my code connect?
Check that the network name matches exactly, including capitals, and that the security type is right. Hidden networks may need to be added manually.
