How to use the Engagement Rate Calculator
- 1
Choose whether to measure by followers or by reach.
- 2
Enter the interactions for a post (or totals for several posts and the number of posts).
- 3
Compare the rate with your past posts, not just industry averages.
Two ways to measure
By followers: interactions ÷ followers × 100. Good for comparing accounts. By reach: interactions ÷ people reached × 100. Better for judging a post, because it only counts people who actually saw it.
What moves the number
Engagement rate falls naturally as accounts grow. What helps at any size:
- Posts that start conversations (questions, opinions, how-tos)
- Native video and carousels on Instagram and LinkedIn
- Replying to comments in the first hour
- Posting when your audience is online
Frequently asked questions
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on the platform and account size. Smaller accounts usually see higher rates. Track your own average and aim to beat it.
Should saves and shares count?
Yes. They're strong signals of value, and most platforms weight them more than likes.
By followers or by reach?
Use reach for individual posts and followers for comparing accounts.
Is my data stored?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
