How to use the NPS Calculator
- 1
Choose whether you have the group counts or the raw scores.
- 2
Enter promoters (9–10), passives (7–8) and detractors (0–6), or paste the scores.
- 3
Read your NPS and margin of error. Small surveys swing a lot, so watch the trend over time.
The NPS formula
NPS = % promoters − % detractors. Passives count toward the total but not the score. 62 promoters, 25 passives and 13 detractors out of 100 responses gives an NPS of 49. The score runs from −100 to +100.
With fewer than about 100 responses the margin of error is wide, often ±10 points or more, so a five-point change month to month may be noise.
Turn promoters into Google reviews
Promoters are the customers most likely to leave a five-star review, and reviews are one of the strongest local ranking factors on Google Maps. Send everyone who scores 9 or 10 a direct review link while they're happy, and follow up with detractors personally to fix the problem before it becomes a public review.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate NPS?
Subtract the percentage of detractors (scores 0–6) from the percentage of promoters (scores 9–10).
What is a good NPS score?
Above 0 means more promoters than detractors. Above 30 is good, above 50 is great and above 70 is excellent, though averages vary by industry.
Do passives affect NPS?
Not directly, but they count in the total, so more passives pull both percentages down.
How many responses do I need?
Aim for at least 100 for a stable score. The margin of error tells you how precise your result is.
Is my data stored?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
